The position of Director of Public Prosecutions is occupied by Ms. Cheryll M. Richards, Queen Counsel. Ms. Richards was called to the bar in 1986 in her native Jamaica. She joined the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions there where she attained the post of Deputy DPP.
She later joined the Attorney General’s Chambers in the Turks and Caicos in 1993 and served there for approximately three years.
Ms. Richards joined the Cayman Islands Legal Department in 1996 as Crown Counsel (Criminal). She was soon appointed Senior Crown Counsel (International) and in 2005 was appointed to the post of Solicitor General. She was called to the Inner Bar in November of 2009 and on the first of May 2011 was appointed the first ever Director of Public Prosecutions of the Cayman Islands.
